Military installations are not immune. Attacks have occurred on bases and at related facilities, including sites with controlled access. Fort Hood was hit twice, in 2009 and 2014. The Washington Navy Yard attack in 2013 killed 12 people inside a secure facility. Access rules did not stop those attacks.

From 2000 through 2019, the FBI designated 9 active shooter incidents on military properties. Through 2018, government and military facilities together accounted for 71 killed and 94 wounded. Stateside, most service members and contractors do not have a trauma kit within reach when an attack starts.

Bridge of Life Training’s Bystander Active Shooter Education (B.A.S.E.) course is limited to what a person needs in those minutes: what to do, and how to slow bleeding until medical personnel take over. It is suitable for troops on base and for support staff, including PX and BX employees and contractors.
