Government

Government buildings are not exempt. Courthouses, federal offices, and other public facilities have been the scene of active shooter attacks, including sites with controlled access. Plans and security do not put care at the point of injury. Injured people still wait while the scene is cleared and EMS is called in.

From 2000 through 2022, the FBI designated 29 active shooter incidents in government facilities. Through 2018, government and military facilities together accounted for 71 killed and 94 wounded. These are active shooter incidents, not only mass killings.

Bridge of Life Training’s Bystander Active Shooter Education (B.A.S.E.) course covers the gap from the point of injury until EMS can provide care and transport. The people who reach the injured first may be the ones who keep them alive.
